Your body and brain depend on using the right protective equipment every single time you ride. Maybe you’ve heard the motorcyclist’s acronym: ATGATT. It means “all the gear all the time.” Please take this advice to heart! When you are on two wheels, in the open air, you are much more vulnerable to injury than a driver protected on all sides by reinforced metal and airbags. It never pays to skimp on safety.

Helmets

A high-quality skid lid should be at the top of everyone’s list. While Utah law only requires helmets on those under 21, trust us. Helmets are a good idea for everyone. You really want to protect your head from injury with an approved motorcycle helmet. Keep in mind that these are rated for one impact only, so they must be replaced after an accident. Helmets have a five-year lifespan.

Boots

Protect your precious feet with motorcycle boots designed for the hard-working motorcycle lifestyle. You want semi-rigid, above-the-ankle boots, with slip-resistance to help you get a purchase on slippery roads or oily surfaces.

Gloves

Get a nice solid pair of gloves designed specifically for motorcycling. Make sure your wrist and fingers move freely. Protect your hands from road rash or worse!

Jackets

Next up, get a jacket specifically designed for use on a motorcycle. They’re crafted differently from street apparel, with doubled-up stitches for better durability and impact-absorbing materials at critical spots such as elbows and shoulders. Look for a snug fit that’s still comfortable enough to allow your full range of movement. Depending on whether you’re a fair-weather or four-season rider, you may want a warm-weather jacket with lots of venting or a cold-weather jacket that limits airflow.
